Cyber Security: You Can Outsmart A Con Artist

BBB to moderate panel at Nov. 9 FMWF Chamber Event

Better Business Bureau of Minnesota and North Dakota ® (BBB) will moderate a panel of cyber security experts on Wednesday, November 9, at the Holiday Inn Fargo, as part of a Fargo Moorhead West Fargo (FMWF) Chamber business education training. By attending “Cyber-Security: You Can Outsmart a Con Artist,” area business owners and executives will learn about cyber schemes currently impacting the marketplace and ways they can protect their businesses from this constantly evolving threat.

According to a recent BBB whitepaper, cyber-attacks cost US businesses more than $400 billion per year and affect one in four small businesses. The average financial loss for small businesses under cyber-attack is $4,400. However, some have lost as much as $150,000.

The cyber security panel in Fargo on November 9, which begins at 11:30 a.m. and includes lunch, offers helpful insights into local and national fraud in a society where online data security threats seem to be multiplying. Panelists Lisa Jemtrud, Director of BBB’s Institute for Marketplace Ethics, Rick Davis of Insight Technologies, and Jesse Van Nevel of First International Bank & Trust will discuss current cyber threats as they pertain to the business world, as well as emerging trends. The event will be moderated by Heather Johnson, BBB Business Outreach Coordinator. There will also be a question and answer session afterwards.

“We are very excited to be a part of this wonderful Fargo Moorhead West Fargo Chamber event and we feel this discussion is timely and could not be more relevant for all business owners, small or large,” said Dana Badgerow, president and CEO of BBB of Minnesota and North Dakota.

Business owners are invited to come with questions and learn tactics they can use to prevent cyber thieves from adversely affecting their bottom lines.
